This year, during the 96th edition of the Oscar night there were no particular twists. Oppenheimer and Povere Creature dominated the scene with seven and four awards respectively. For the world of watches, however, things went differently. Tonight, in fact, Rolex presented, in a completely unexpected way, a new Rolex Day-Date, while celebrities showed off watches of all kinds, and some definitely surprised us!

Here is an overview of the watches worn by some actors and famous people during the event.

Cillian Murphy with Omega De Ville

The winner of this edition was undoubtedly the Irish actor, who collected the Academy Awards for Best Leading Actor (in the film Oppenheimer).

For the evening, Murphy wore an Omega model, the De Ville Prestige in steel, 40 mm. A watch symbol of classic design and refined elegance which, since the 1960s, has been characterized by being “so thin that it wraps around the wrist”, thanks to the fineness and elegant roundness of the case and bezel.

Ryan Gosling with Tag Heuer Carrera Plasma

Protagonist of one of the most applauded and iconic performances of the evening, Ryan Gosling sang “I’m Just Ken”, from the soundtrack of the film “Barbie” wearing a special version of the Tag Heuer model (brand of which Gosling is ambassador).

This watch, measuring 36 mm, is certainly an out of the ordinary model that combines advanced watchmaking experience and a surprising look.

Decorated with imaginatively shaped lab-created Diamant d’Avant-Garde diamonds, the watch measures 36mm and features a stunning crown at 3 o’clock crafted from a single lab-created diamond. The dial is in polycrystalline diamond, formed by the union of various crystals, and the indexes are also in diamonds; the strap is in black leather. The Tag Heuer Carrera Plasma Diamant d’Avant-Garde was worn by Gosling not only for the performance but also on the red carpet.

Rolex Federer with Rolex Daytona Le Mans

Also a champion of elegance, the legendary tennis player represented the maison crowned at the Oscars wearing a Rolex novelty, the already mythological Rolex ‘Le Mans’ Daytona.

The model chosen by Federer, perfect to complete his black and white look, was created to celebrate 100 years of the 24 Hours of Le Mans: Rolex Celebrates 100 Years of the 24 Hours of Le Mans | Italian Watch Spotter.

Robert Downey Jr. with JLC Reverso

Robert Downey Jr. won his first Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for Christopher Nolan’s film Oppenheimer, wearing a beautiful rose gold model with a skeletonized dial and alligator strap on his wrist, presented by Jaeger-LeCoultre at Watches and Wonders 2023. This is a very elegant model, which houses the new JLC 860 movement.

Cord Jefferson with Omega Speedmaster

To collect the Oscar for best adapted screenplay (for the film American Fiction), screenwriter Cord Jefferson chose an Omega Speedmaster model in the brand new 41 mm version, with a white dial.

Inspired by astronaut suits and the iconic 1969 ALASKA I prototype, this white dial has contrasting black details and red “Speedmaster” writing.

Michelle Yeoh with Richard Mille RM 07-02

The actress does not deny herself that, for years, she has been one of the ambassadors of the RM brand. For the Oscars evening he opted for the RM 07-02 model, which combines Richard Mille’s savoir-faire with a feminine elegance perfect for the red carpet, thanks to the tonneau shape of the case and the riot of diamonds.

Matthew McConaughey with Jacob & Co.

Very particular but super chic was the choice of actor Matthew McConaughey who wore a model from the collection given by the partnership between Bugatti and Jacob & Co. These are watches inspired by hypercars, characterized by extreme luxury, mechanical performance and precision manufacturing , characteristics that inspire both brands.

Bradley Cooper with Louis Vuitton Tambour

Bradley Cooper was nominated for three Oscars after directing himself in “Maestro”. For the ceremony he chose his Louis Vuitton Tambour, renewing the bond with the French watch house which entered the steel sports watch market this year with an extremely high quality product.

Anya Taylor-Joy with JLC 101 Reine

The American actress chose a “mermaid” look for the evening, with a mermaid dress by Dior Haute Couture, further embellished with a beautiful Jaeger LeCoultre 101 Reine.

The 101 collection is characterized by the incredible craftsmanship and watchmaking meticulousness combined with the extreme refinement of the aesthetic details. In particular, the version worn by Anya Taylor-Joy features a perfectly symmetrical design with 110 diamonds and a tiny silver opaline dial.

Dwayne Johnson with Bulgari Octo Finissimo

Dwayne Johnson and Bad Bunny awarded the best foreign film, handing the coveted statuette to “The Zone of Interest”.

The actor and producer Dwayne Johnson, known by the pseudonym “The Rock”, wore a totally Italian look, with a Dolce and Gabbana suit and a Bulgari Octo Finissimo Chronograph GMT on his wrist, unmistakable thanks to its ultra-thin mechanical manufacturing movement.

John Cena with Rolex Explorer

Like any self-respecting Oscar, a moment with a high level of irony could not be missing: this year it was the turn of John Cena who, to present the award for the best costumes, showed up in a full-body suit, wearing only his watch!

Specifically, it is a Rolex Explorer with a white dial, a historic sports model from the Maison and certainly suitable for such a “particular” outing.

Ke Huy Quan with Cartier Santos Dumont Skeleton

The actor wore a model introduced by Cartier in 2023: the iconic Santos-Dumont, tribute to the aviator Alberto Santos-Dumont, for whom Louis Cartier designed the first wristwatch in 1904, hosts in this version a new movement skeletonized. The timeless charm of the Santos is accompanied, in this model, by the extreme refinement of the skeletonized movement, visible directly from the “naked” dial in all its sculptural perfection.

Simu Liu with Jacob & Co.

Simu Liu chose a Jacob & Co. The World is Yours Dual Time Zone, a watch that combines the art of watchmaking with a bold and innovative design typical of Jacob & Co.
